Research Paper
Seniors in the Global Studies program complete a yearlong capstone project exploring a global issue of their choice, culminating in a thesis paper and a presentation to the community and the public. My topic is about healthcare in prisons in the United States and Norway. The paper outlines public and private prisons, discusses access to mental and physical healthcare, and how each country structures healthcare and how treatment is paid for. This paper allowed me to gain valuable insights into global healthcare experiences and learn more about U.S. and foreign prisons' healthcare.
Product One
For my first product, I created a policy brief arguing that the United States needs to reform how it provides healthcare to incarcerated people. I built it directly from my research, pulling the most important statistics and findings from my paper and organizing them around five concrete recommendations, including eliminating medical copays, expanding telemedicine, and transferring oversight of prison healthcare to public health departments.
