Jounior Year
Global Issue Project
In global studies, juniors create a project about a current global issue. This gives all global studies students a chance to choose a topic they are passionate about and gives them creative liberty to create their final product. I decided to develop and present a workshop about Haiti's history, emphasizing how colonial rule has affected the country's government, economy, and reliance on foreign aid. In the workshop, people will also learn how natural disasters and gang violence further affect the country's struggling economy and political insecurity.
I am incredibly passionate about learning about Haiti due to my involvement in funding Haitian education. Haiti has been my dream place to visit since I was a child, but that dream has been temporarily put on hold due to safety concerns. By learning more about Haitian history, I believe I will be a better global citizen, be able to apply my knowledge, make connections, and share what I have learned with others when I am finally able to visit.
