Healthcare

The Crosby Fund for Haitian Education
I was fortunate to have a teacher who traveled to Haiti during the summer to work in an elementary school for Haitians, many of whom were orphans. After learning about the political and socioeconomic situation in the country, I started raising money to send one, and eventually two, children to school in Haiti each year. I’ve primarily done this by using my sewing skills to sell items and donate the profits to the Crosby Fund for Haitian Education. The Crosby Fund ensures that the money I raise goes directly to pay the tuition and fees of Phens Oltin (right) and Sophia Melissa Altidort (left).
Dominican Republic Service trip
My experience in the DR dramatically shaped my interest in healthcare. Learning about how challenging it has been for displaced Haitian citizens to access basic healthcare services in the DR is incredibly problematic. I feel very fortunate to be part of an effort to help others access this basic right.

How I'm preparing for a Career in Healthcare
During the summer of 2024, I volunteered at Hartford Hospital in The Bone and Joint Institute operating room. I learned how operating rooms function and all the different roles in pre-and post-surgical care. I also earned my CNA (certified nurse aid) license, which helped me gain hands-on experience in a nursing home.
